When Jason and I hit 4 years of marriage, we started getting this question a lot, “When are you having babies?” Now, don’t get me wrong, I cannot wait to have babies with this hunk. We dream about it all the time and talk about the way we are going to raise our children. The problem (not really a problem) is that we are having SO much fun at this stage of our marriage! There have definitely been some challenges as we have taken big steps of faith in our careers, but I wouldn’t change this stage for anything!
If I could describe this stage of our marriage in one word it would be: Spontaneous. I love the fact that we can be spontaneous and go on a fun date night in Newport Beach or meet up with friends last minute at Muldoon’s Irish Pub…but my favorite part of this spontaneous stage has been traveling. I love traveling with this man! Whether it’s Costa Rica, Cancún, Cabo, Whistler, Colorado, Hawaii, etc., traveling has created special memories for us that will last a lifetime.
I don’t plan on stopping the spontaneous stage when kids come along, but I am enjoying this special stage of our marriage as it’s a different type of spontaneous. Kids will definitely come here in the future, but we have a few more items on our bucket list before we have little ones following us around.
If you’re a newlywed or engaged, my advice for you is to travel and wait to have kids. It’s okay if you want kids right away. I have nothing against having kids at the beginning of your marriage. Children are a blessing and I can’t wait to have some of my own! Our reason for waiting has been to build our marriage and have time to focus on each other. It has been incredibly special and has brought us closer to each other and Jesus.
